With the involvement of members of the community the tourism council has come up with the following missionstatement:

"Develop eco-tourism in a comunitarian way to generate income and promote the well being of the whole population, preserving cultural values and the natural beauty of the region".
The investment in formal and informal education as well as leadership training for members of the Association is starting to pay off, so, that the village today counts on a number of prepared people that are able to execute  this ambitious project.

Tourism-Seminar points the way into the future:
Residents of the village together with representatives of NGO's, universities, environmental authorities and government agencies met in 1998 during three days in Prainha do Canto Verde and decided on the following development strategy:
Foundation of a tourism-cooperative;
Focus on the market of seminar- and meeting tourism, environmentalists and selected individual tourists;
Take advantage of existing accomodations and meeting facilities;
Extensive training program for members of the cooperative and high school students;
Promote awareness training about sexuality and drugabuse for old and young;

 Diversify prodution of handicraft;
Slow buildup of additional tourism installations, like a souvenir store and guestrooms in suitable families of the community;
Creation of a solidarity-fund for needy families, to be administered by a solidarity council of the village;
Demarkation of walking trails through the surrounding ecosystem.

Avoid the negative consequences of tourism -development: We don't need to travel very far to observe the negative effects of tourism developed without the participation of the local population. where all that counts is a quick profit by a rich minority. People from the community have visited the well known resorts of Morro Branco and Canoa Quebrada, even have relatives who live there. Many young people have been lost to child prostitution and drug abuse.

Thanks to the generous support of our Amigos, we dispose of a good infrastructure to care for our visitors today:
Community Guesthouse; Community center; the school restaurant Bela Vista, well suited for parties and Shows; the beach restaurant; several private restaurants; Guesthouse Sol e Mar; guest rooms for rental; Jangadas for sailing trips; meeting rooms and the library.
