The mouth of the Parnaiba river, between the states of Piaui and Maranhão, it has the form of delta, which begins in the town of Parnaiba, at 120 Km far from Piracuruca. The Parnaiba Delta is like a hand: the river opens in five arms, which waters flow o ocean creating more than 70 little island where you can find a water ecosystem with labyrinths of rivers, forest and mangroves, surrounded by steady and movable sand dune.
The total area is 2,700 Km2, and the border has 90 Km of extension for 30 Km of breadth. All islands cover about 80,000 hectares.
The trip begins in the town of Parnaiba, and visitor sails during all day with guide service and meal included.
Over all the world we just find three deltas in open sea. The Parnaiba Delta is the number one in Americas, the others two are found in the mouth of Nile(Africa) and Mekong(Asia).
